Assessment of Blood Circulation and Nerve Health in the Feet

Some of you may suffer from numbness and tingling in your feet due to a health condition affecting the sensation and blood circulation. Early detection can help you understand the health of your feet and maintain mobility.

The feet are an essential part of the body. As we age or due to other physical factors, peripheral circulation in the extremities may slow down in some people, resulting in numbness, tingling, or abnormal sensations in the feet. Many people may ignore these early signs, and without proper care, the risk of foot injuries may increase, affecting the quality of daily life.

A team of professional Certified Pedorthists can provide foot health assessment services to help you understand your condition.

Foot health is the foundation for maintaining freedom of movement. Regular monitoring of foot health and professional advice will help detect changes early so that you can live with greater peace of mind.

Comparison of Foot Health Tests

Conventional foot neurological screening is used to assess the response of the large fiber nerves. These include the single filament test, the tuning fork test, and the nerve conduction test to evaluate the function of large fiber nerves. There are many different nerve fibers in the foot, and the smallest, unmyelinated C-fibers are the first to be damaged when neuropathy occurs. Nowadays, advanced testing methods can observe more subtle neurological responses, which can help assess the health status of the foot more comprehensively.

Introduction to Foot Health Assessment

Our assessment utilizes a non-invasive technique that combines the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) + Toe-brachial index (TBI) with the Skin Sympathetic Nerve Function Test. The ABI + TBI helps to understand the blood flow in the lower limbs. The Skin Sympathetic Nerve Function Test (SSNF) provides objective data on the response of the subtle nerves in the foot.

The two tests are non-invasive operations. They record multiple physiological data points, which helps fully understand your feet’ blood circulation and nerve health, providing a practical reference for foot care.

The test results are presented in a visual format for the reference of healthcare professionals and the examinees.
